is it just me or have you all noticed how one day "redwidgets" will drop and then the next day it will be "widgetsred" and the next "red-widgets" etccccc

is that how people register domain names? "ohh redwidgets lets get it" and the next day "oohhh but what if someone has widgetsred? lets get that"

very funny

That is probably how they think, you know lock up the name and every lousy variant as though Kerry Packer is about to waltz in and register all those names in front of them. In fact they'd be better off if someone else did register variants of it. Ditto for registering a .com.au or .com then thinking the .net or .net.au is a good idea.

we all know what you think of .nets &.net.au's and personally i totally agree with you

thankfully businesses like OMG seemed to stay with just .com.au and not net.au and now if you have a deep pocket some are available ( as has been previously posted)

so now i wonder:rolleyes: will any OMG domains "drop" or will they continue to renew.

note: i think this is public knowledge, anyone can find out these details but we still can't see the domains expiration date.

lol. Must admit, I've done a bit of "gotta get the set" over the years, only to wonder a year later WTF I was thinking... :/

I had a client blow up at me a few weeks ago because a new competitor had bought a .net.au with good keywords in it and developed a site on it.

I was like, "I don't see the problem."

He was like, "I thought we owned all the good domains."

And I was like, "we do."

Then he was like, "then how did they get this one?"

And I was like, "it's not a "good" domain, plus we own the .com.au version of it anyway and we didn't even think it was worth developing. So I'm still failing to see the problem."

Then he said, "I don't care, register all the .net.au's as well!"

Then I was like...

...whatever.

Agreed except in the case where you really plan to give a venture a really good go. Like if you are really and truly going to throw several thousand at a venture it might be worth regging a couple more.

However that's not what domaining is about I guess

when i read your post is was "like" "OMG" "like" "yeh" . no seriously you are describing the same conversation i have had with many clients, what i do know is this:

secure the deal, website design, domain rego, etc

THEN i tell them all the possible variations of their name and ask them to add in a few they can think of, then i say well thats going to $xx EACH so what do you want to do, they then make a decision and you are FREEEEE from the hassles in the future because you can say " well i did ask you about this and you said no...."
