won't realestate.com.au come knocking for this domain as they chase any thing similar? Or is it possible for them to get by?

IMO i wouldnt have touched it. Good luck to the buyers, didn't really like the plural anyways. 'realestates' isnt really a common term said or written.

They don't look very domainer friendly..

Domain Recovery

We manage the recovery of your lost or stolen or desired domain names. We perform a detailed back ground registrant investigation then recommend the the best approach for your case, be it through negotiation or domain name dispute action.

Welcome to Web IP, the experts in domain name recovery. With an ever increasing number of new spaces and continued deregulation, we are seeing an ever growing increase in domain name infringements. Domain infringements can cost businesses website traffic, as well as mislead customers and damage their brand.

We are also regularly contacted by businesses with a new brand or product they wish to launch, but have found that the domains are already taken. We have worked with many of Australia’s leading brands to recover desired domain names and shut down online trademark and brand infringements.

There may be a number of options available to you when it comes to recovering a domain name. It all depends the situation. What is the domain extension and policy? Do you have the trademark? When was the domain name registered? And so on.

Through a detailed investigation, Web IP will determine the best course of action for your situation. We can then take action on your behalf, be it through negotiations to purchase the domain name, DRP cases via the domain name industry bodies, domain shut down action or legal proceedings. Call us to discuss how we can help recover your desired domain name.

Only value is as a typo of the site in my view, "realestates" makes very little sense, would not have called this a plural even though it is probably in some weird dictionary somewhere.

better than those fake estates...

I can't see the new owners holding on to it for very long. Especially if they build something property related on it.

Well you would argue that it's entirely generic. Just because another company is using a high profile generic domain, doesnt render all misspellings/variations bad faith.

In fact that's one of the few disadvantages of generic domains

PS aus11, if the owners of grannyflats.com.au came at you and said you were infringing on their domain, what would you do? Give it up?

i agree its just to generic to have a hope in litigation. + the domain name sucks.

as for domain recovery, (been to the website) i wouldn't be making those sort of claims and promises, they make out they can fix any problem and save you from every mishap, god help them when they stuff up and let a domain drop !

Fair point, but I would argue that it is a generic phrase and that the owner of GrannyFlats.com.au company isn't called Granny Flats, it is a building company that also does granny flats.

The problem I see with RealEstates.com.au is that no one uses that phrase. So to me it seems more of a typo (of RealEstate.com.au) than a generic.

One can "argue" till the cows come home, what do you actually think is likely to happen with this name in a dispute?

Complain Denied.

Don't you? and what's with the inverted commas? You spoiling for a fight snoopy?

I think it would probably be lost (or deleted even before that). I see it as a misspell of realestate.com.au not something with any real meaning.

Personally think it would fall under this,

a) the domain name is a misspelling of an entity, personal or brand name that does not belong to the registrant; and.........

4.2 For the purposes of the prohibition, a domain name will be regarded as a misspelling if it falls into one of the following categories:

a) the singular version of a plural name, or the plural version of a singular name (eg. woolworth.com.au, safeways.com.au);

I agree. If it was a genuine plural then maybe it has some merit, but "realestates" or "real estates" is a nothing word/phrase.

And the real point here - why the **** would you bother with such a rubbish domain? How are you going to make money out of it? Anyone wasting their time on domains like this is doing it wrong.

Parking I think. Wouldn't say it is usable for much else.
