i've benn around the world today on drop sites and a common system that we don't seem to have here is "future drops"

eg: i can go to an english site and not just see tommorrows .co.uk drops but the next 10 days drops, so for usa sites on .com's

i have i missed something here? a button? and i am not talking after market.

it would be great to know whats coming up in the next 5 days, i could really decide that i wanted it, maybe it would actually increase the sell prices for NF and Drop.

bugger, and morganp's link suggests only 1 day ahead.

to repeat myself, a week ahead would help the business

If AUDA published more than 1 day in advance Drop and Netfleet's expired domains profits would fall a lot I think. Domainers could simply negotiate with domain owners to buy names before they entered the serverRenewProhibited (Expired) period.

I would personally favour having the domain list released 1 week in advance without any changes to the domain expiration policy, so I could deal directly with the domain owners and bypass the whole aftermarket auction scenario.

thats not my impression of what happens, 1 week before a drop nobody can do anything even the previous owner so your point of bypassing NF and drop doesn't fit, or am i totally wrong?

i like the system the way it is, i think its fair and businesses like NF and drop who have spent A LOT of money on setting this all up do deserve to make a priofit, even though we like to screw them to the bones ;)

all i won't is a little more notice

After a domain expires there is a 30 day window in which you can renew the domain. The domain appears on AuDA drop list on the 31st day at which time the domain owner cannot renew the licence. That is my understanding.

You cannot get a longer notice period of a domain dropping without the domain expiration becoming public knowledge and hence the ability to negotiate with the domain owner directly. Those circumstances might also trigger the domain being renewed if the domain owner did not receive the renewal notice and was unaware the domain was about to expire as was the case with homeloancalculator.com.au

I guess your the type of guy that would rather buy his house through a realestate agent rather than buy privately.

i don't service my car, i don't fix the washing machine if it breask so yes, each to their own but when the car guy wants a website he should come to me not build it himself.

what i believe in is that we all have skills and we should stick to them and pay others to do what we do not know well.

its pointless fixing your car to save a few dollars whilst at the same time you could be earning much more.

You'd struggle to come to a deal for 99% od domains. Those who didnt realize their domain was dropping would just renew and say not for sale.

Those who did, if given a $100 offer to sell, would either still think their domain is worthless and the buyer is mad and let it drop anyway or get a new inflated idea of their domains value, renew it and ask for many times the true market value.

Well said, and a great argument to leave it as is.

You can see the NZ drops working like this. So many last minute renewals most likely because someone trying to beat the drops.
