My first drop.....

So I bought my first drop the other day......bobthebuilder.com.au

My question is....is this a trademarked name.....and does that essentially make my ownership of the domain pointless?

If it is valid for me to own the domain how would you monetise this? Im thinking on renting to companies who sell bob the builder toys.

Im also thinking of approaching builders....I reckon "bob the builder" is an awesome name for a building company.

It's registered as both a trademark, and a business name in multiple states.

You will definitely be in trouble if you do anything related to the Bob the Builder tv character

Even a niche content site about bob the builder with Google Adsense Ads?

Or advertising for companies that sell bob the builder products?

Ah dammit, knew this was a risk....but I saw active bidding on it so I assumed it was a valid use domain name.....newbie error!

Risky just go to the .com version.

Just need to do your research in the future, we all make mistakes.

Yeah - they happen, best part is there is probably be a good chance you'll make more mistakes, but despite what anyone tells you, we've all messed up, I know I still make mistakes.

The secret is trying to only make them once, and trying to make sure your mistakes aren't the "catastrophic" sort.

In my opinion, there is more than enough money to be made without infringing on people's trademarks. So my advice would be to not make a bad situation worse by trying to make money via that domain...

Best tip, just read forums like these cover to cover, and just start asking questions... that's what these forums are for.

If you name is Bob and you are a builder you could probably keep and use it. If not don't spend too much developing it, Monetise it and keep your fingers crossed.
