I disagree - I think it's a very low value for such a domain. There's only 100 of them in the world. That inherently adds value. Plus it's short, memorable and brandable...
I think generally LL's are more valuable than NN's...more chance of an LL being an acronym match to a business name I guess

If those assumptions are correct then why would it sell for $2 if the market value is several hundred? I don't know if that can just be put down to randomness.

Yes, thanks, was surprised I picked it up for $2. Bit of a vanity domain, but I am a sucker for CC.com.au domains!
I was also surprised to see ix.com.au sell on NF yesterday for $233, which is the lowest I have seen a LL.com.au domain sell at the drops. When I looked earlier I thought it was .net.au, wasn't till after the auction I noticed it was a .com.au (at which time I proceeded to kick myself).

Cheers, I guess one of my assumptions is definitely wrong then, about ll.com.au. Thought these were $300-$400+ but sounds like it is $200+.

ix.com.au was the lowest priced LL we've ever snapped. On average, you are correct snoopy, they do fetch way more. Here's some recent LL's, NN's and LN/NL's we've snapped:

Was also a heap of nn.com sales in early 2009. (I think it was all the same seller).

I think it was a rather random day. Neddy said it was the first day he didn't put a bid in for ages. I missed the deadline at Drop and don't bid at NF. Lurker missed the LL.com.au. All it takes is a few would-be serious bidders to miss out and it can make a huge difference.
Yes that's probably a fair call. People are more comfortable (myself included) buying domains that aren't brandable as such but have their value grounded in metrics. X search vol and Y CPC gives you a basis for putting a confident market value on the domain.
BTW there have been a few other LL.com.au sales on Drop and the NF aftermarket too:
BL.com.au got about $1K
OW.com.au got $1,500
MM.com.au $2K
LL.com.au got $4K
Yesterday's examples are by far the lowest selling LL.com.au's and NN.com.au's we've ever seen in AU
was this the same buyer? Wasn't there a Chinese guy who was buying up numeric domains with some sort of secret masterplan? Paying 6-figures for NNN.com's etc?
