Popular Australian highway names as domains

I'm wondering if anyone thinks there's any value, from say a tourism perspective, for securing domains or developing websites based on well-known Australian highway routes?

For example, one of Australia's most well-known, PacificHighway.com.au is parked/for sale. You wonder about the value of that domain and potential website scope from a tourism perspective, given the Pacific Highway goes through or around some very large coastal centres in New South Wales.

Another one that's also parked is StuartHighway.com.au - covering the epic journey through the heart of Australia from Darwin, through Alice Springs, Coober Pedy and down to the Flinders Ranges at Port Augusta.

There are, of course, a number of well-known highway names that aren't registered as domains yet, such as EyreHighway.com.au (across the Nullarbor), and NewEnglandHighway.com.au through some large centres in NSW and QLD.

Anyone think there's any value in buying or registering the domain names related to well-known highway routes in Australia?

The only value is if there are businesses using the name, eg Stuart Highway Motel.

If not then I'd say its a waste of time, people aren't going to pay to sleep on the road.

I was more thinking along the lines that if someone is planning a holiday/drive along the Pacific Highway from Sydney to Brisbane, then "pacific highway" is something they'd search for in Google. Same with the Stuart Highway through the red centre.

An official tourism organisation has done it for the Newell Highway (www.newellhighway.com.au) through central NSW. They are No.1 in Google for a search of Newell Highway, but with their mirror .org.au site.

Tough one...I can see it for something absolutely famous like say 'Route66', thats been totaly marketed in movies and song.

Australia-wise...I dont know, maybe the most touristy would be 'Highway1' (round Australia tour, pacific h/way), but thats taken.

i think pacifichighway has value if you personally have the skills to develop and market it, after all its a bloody longggggggggggggg road and loads of businesses.

having been down this path of similar online businesses i can tell you its A LOT of work.

if it came up on hand reg i think i wouldn't reg it
