MobileWiFi.com.au - acquired in 2009

I've recently noticed the sale of PortableWiFi.com.au via DNTrade and Flippa (congratulations both!).

MobileWiFi.com.au is a domain that I have overlooked for too long, have not developed and I'm considering options. It is on NetFleet but I haven't pushed for a sale.

Before I do advertise it for sale or post it as such here on DNTrade, I'd first like to ask for the advice of the forum, and esp. hopefully those associated with the sale/purchase of PortableWiFi.com.au

Thanks all,
Ben

A nice name and I would say on a domain vs domain basis slightly better then portable wifi. However the value in that site came from the already developed site and rankings imo.

I don't think it'd be right to say too much given I no longer own the site but I think mobilewifi.com.au is a great name but for a different market; portablewifi.com.au was for a specific type of device while mobile wifi to me is more general in broadband terms (not a bad thing). Along the lines of what zhenjie said, the value is in it being developed as the exact search volume isn't huge although it does go to show you don't need 1000+ exacts to make money.

Thank you guys. Makes good sense.

You know the market well JB due to PortableWifi and I think you did a super job. Do you mind if I PM you for a specific or two re your market perception & the diff in search term pairs. I obviously would rather not be needlessly competing but rather getting the domain tuned properly or alt selling to someone wanting to rinse, tilt & repeat.

At the moment, it looks like developing rather than selling. I should think about it more today - maybe run a sale on it before committing.

I think you should PM James and ask him if he's OK with that first. Personally, I wouldn't like it if someone shared their knowledge of the market after I purchased their website.

Good point Jonathan.

I won't PM either - to be fair.

Development being recommended, I posted publicly to avoid friction. James should surely recognise that. I didn't know you two when I acquired it in '09. Seeing PortableWiFi sales thread here on the forum, I thought it best to ping the people here on the domain. I would like to sell it, but only if there's someone who wants it, and/or can do something worthwhile with it.

Further, I would prefer to do something other than what James is doing on 'portable'. And something with synergy could turn out to be win-win, which is always preferable to me. As James, who should know says, different market.

For the record and for James particularly, I do not have any intention of plainly competing or carbon-copying the recipe. There are many other things I could be doing.

If I have a similar domain to something notable on this forum, I'd rather be friendly and forward with those on the forum and ask advice, rather than secretly compete against them.

An undeveloped domain is not yet a singular commercial entity responsible only to shareholders and so I'd like to, if possible whilst I own it, find a win-win. If I can't I'll probably leave it again for later.

I'm like that, and I try working that way where possible. However, I have learned, as no doubt many of you have also, to not expect the same of others.

Just to clarify - I'm not suggesting you shouldn't build a website but just that it wouldn't be right for me to point out how :)
