Google Search Changes

I've noticed all navigation on the left of the SERP's is now moved to a horizontal above the SERP's. This pushes organics down, and increases ads.

It bugs me because 16:9/16:10 Widescreen monitors are wasted almost with this new search page. I hate having to perform more clicks to refine my search to Australia only, and Time frames.

It hasn't been rolled out onto Google.com.au yet - only Google.com.

But yes, I agree - it's a pain in the ass..

Interesting. So what's going to fill up that void on the left hand side I wonder!! Nearly getting absurd - on my laptop in the new view, I can see 1 organic result (just 1!), and 8 adverts.

Hmm... hasn't hit my browsers yet (tried in FF, IE & Chrome), also flushed my cache and DNS. You're the lucky ones! ;)

@Mark - there were "rumors" that Google were going to throw in more Adwords ads in those blank white spaces... but I don't think they will roll that out considering how many people would be peeved about it - it would ruin the "search experience".

And no doubt that is 1 organic result too many for Google shareholders.

The one thing I don't like is that the very common task of limiting results to pages from Australia is extremely fiddly. You have to click on "Search Tools", then take a guess as to which pop-down menu item to choose from as a few could fit the scope of limiting the results to Australia, then selecting "Pages from Australia". Disabling this is also a nuisance, whereas back on the old days, you just click the cross in the bar that indicated it was Australian-only results.
