Ok I can't resist posting silly things - it appears I am in a good mood at the moment. (as you can tell I have not been on my 1 hour uphill ride)

Your job is to read them all WITHOUT smiling once..

Do you ever wonder what possesses people to come up with registering domains like this -

porkbolognaise.com.au
porkbolognese.com.au
porkher.com.au
porkhim.com.au
porkhimtonight.com.au
porkme.com.au
porkroast.com.au
porkthem.com.au

Yep I did a whois and it was registered by nextdigital for Australian Pork.

Honestly - what the hell were they thinking - can you imagine an advertisement on TV with references to domains like that...

I know it's bad, bad, bad, but it just makes me giggle when I read things like this.

I've never had pork bolognese either. can't imagine what it would be like, but I did try to mix mushrooms into a dish with lime and that was a no no.. wont' do that again.

OK - back to work hat on!!

Really I do not see the problem registering related domains and doing SEO based on your TVC, I have seen it done many times when you deal with big brands to protect your IP.

For a good read on the user trends behind big brand SEO and what people search after they see the advert check out this post - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/big-brand-seo-campaigns-integration-and-extended-brand-keywords

I work in an advertising agency so I can understand it, but yeah these guys are probably going over board but really whats is like 200 bucks in registrations over the cost of say 1 million for a TVC campaign.

Would it be possible to think they have simply forgotten about the names? Were the names even being used? I don't know - all I know is when it comes to a public audience, I feel more inclined to be conservative.

I know what it's like to register brand names around key words that relate to your business - I've got about 80 top level names all centric around the technology I work with. But that is specifically based around the search words I wanted to be found with.

James that is an interesting post and good reading - the seomoz article.

I thank the Lamb ads are very clever - they are witty without being sexual in any way and while I'm not demonising the pork advertisements, I feel perhaps it's something that doesn't sit well with me. ... hmmm maybe I should have had some apple sauce with it.;)

Ned are you telling me you've registered those domains just in case? :D
