catching a .com

I got one of those spam letters for a domain i'd actually want ! telling me its on the market.

i did a whois and its in redemption period so i'm guessing they are trying to sell before they have to renew or let it drop.

So where is the best place to watch it come up on drops and any ideas how long it takes?

so any guesses to when it will drop?

------------

the weird thing is it was being used by someone 6 months ago so maybe he's just let it slip and they are trying to sell something and rip me off or pick it up and charge me heaps ( which won't happen)
the domain doesn't resolve but have put up a for sale page on their website for the name, you'd think if they owned it they would use the actual domain, so its a scam.

PS: i doubt anyone else would want it so i'm going to wait till it goes back to handreg.

It's been about two months now... so from memory shouldn't be long now - depends on the registrar I think (and it's been a while)

Also, chances are you aren't the only one being emailed. If they're spamming you they're spamming others - unless you're the only one with a keyword .net/.org/- version of the domain in question

Probably a middle man. I've noticed this happening when you own the .net, .org. Emails come in, in several ways "xx.com is up for sale, to register interest please go here xxx.com and register intedrest and buy amount"

and also

"hey, I have nothing to do with this domain but it is droppin gon godaddy" go here if you want it xx.com/affiliate link

I got a joker asking me to buy a domain which was not even registered to begin with for like $250. Domain was pretty good so I went to buy it as I owned another .tld for the term. Interesting business model they run with hehe.

i own the .com.au thus the email, i actually use to own this domain but let it drop years ago when my business partner decided not to go ahead with the project, good news i really don't care if i get it back but it would be nice as a hand reg.

the .net is registered but no other country extensions, the .net website seems idle so not expecting them bid.

HA !

i'm continuing to post on this for 2 reasons, (1) i'm not an idiot so i know its a scam and maybe some newbie will like this info (2) they just changed tactics.

So today i get almost the same email but this time they push the link to a different website selling the domain, and the email has come from a different email address.

i'm going to follow this through without making contact and see what happens to the domain, as i said i don't WANT it but would like it so no big deal just an interesting waste of time !

7 hours and 2 minutes later another email FROM a new domain name and email address.

this time a change, they now say the minimum bid is just $69 so be quick to make an offer.

it dropped back to hand reg, couldn't find out the exact date as i haven't been looking everyday.

enter snoopy: " must be a shit .com domain then" , well yes it is but it is one thats personal to me so i don't care of its value to anyone else.

i checked 7 days a go and still not a hand reg, so somewhere between then and today it went back into the system.

i'm only posting to give memebrs some date reference info which i hope may be helpful.
